Tasting notes
Medium red. Enticing, nuanced nose offers strawberry, smoked meat and minerals. Very rich and ripe, with dense flavors of red fruits, gunflint, iron and minerals. Full and sweet in the mouth, with no rough edges but also a solid spine of supporting acidity. Finishes very long, smoky and ripely tannic. This has turned out well.

Roasted black fruits and espresso beans are found in the nose of the 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin. Medium to full-bodied, it reveals outstanding depth of fruit, yet lacks the power and concentration of the vintage’s best grand crus. This wine’s sensual waves of bacon-laced black cherries and blackberries softly caress the taster’s palate. It is seamless, extremely soft, and generous. Drink it over the next 7 years. Raspberry, smoked meat, coffee, mocha and spices on the expressive nose. The fattest and sweetest yet of these 2002s, with a strong oak char and smoked meat element. Distinctly opulent, meaty Gevrey.
