Tasting notes
(from a 1904 planting and aged in French oak) Deep ruby-red. Oaky aromas of black fruits, mocha, licorice and fresh herbs, with an oxidative nut skin element. Then tightly wound and a bit green, showing less sweetness than the basic 2002 shiraz Today the wine's fruit flavors seem crushed by oak. Finishes with drying, somewhat tough tannins. Appears to have been a difficult vintage for this bottling.

The old vine Shiraz cuvee, The Aberfeldy, is fashioned from a vineyard planted in 1904. The 2000 displays an opaque purple color, dense, sweet, blackberry and currant fruit, camphor, licorice, earthy, and toasty oak notes. Full-bodied, with abundant fruit, a supple texture, and showy personality, it will drink well for 10-15 years.
