Medium red. Stunning nose combines inky black cherry, licorice, pepper and iodine, along with suggestions of superripe berries. Then tactile, creamy and deep, with a slightly medicinal cast to the superconcentrated flavors of black raspberry, spices and cola complicated by balsamic and pungent mineral elements. Wonderfully dense, minerally Chambertin with a classically dry finish featuring serious but sweet tannins and outstanding mineral persistence.

Bright, deep red. High-toned, captivating aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice and exotic spices. Lush on entry, then vibrant in the middle, with a peppery minerality washing over the palate. Impressively dense but extremely unevolved today, this grand cru's wake-up call of a finish stimulates the taste buds with a flavor of fruity Tellicherry pepper. (My sample of Potel's Clos de Beze had been pulled from barrel a few days prior to my visit and was not fresh enough to assess with confidence.)

Miraculous vineyard. Very concentrated and dense and maybe no peacock’s tail yet but very convincing. Very very solid. (JR)
