2007 Chambertin

Medium red. Complex nose melds red fruits, minerals, rose petal and game. Then dense and sweet in the mouth, combining an almost liqueur-like quality with lovely lift. A firm spine of acidity gives definition to the flavors of red cherry, flowers and minerals. An attractive, juicy midweight that finishes with dusty tannins and subtle length and needs a good five years of cellaring.

Medium red. Wild aromas of red fruits, smoked meat, spices and earth. Lush on entry, then sweet in the middle but youthfully unforthcoming, with intriguing saline and white fruit suggestions. There's nothing heavy about this fresh, sappy, fine-grained wine. Offers the best palate coverage of these 2007s but this is not a blockbuster. Finishes with suave tannins and a note of nutty oak.

Pretty majestic and impressive. Dense and dry. Very correct. Needs quite a bit of time but there is density there. And layers. Maybe not quite as impressive as in some other vintages. (JR)
