Good full red. Restrained, pure, complex nose hits most of the major Gevrey food groups: redcurrant, cherry, minerals, spices, leather, tobacco and underbrush. Rich, supple and sappy with extract if still a bit youthfully reduced. A strong acid/tannin backbone gives the mid-palate excellent tension. Rises impressively on the slowly building, fine-grained aftertaste. Aged in 100% new oak, like all the grand crus at this address.

(racked two weeks prior to my visit, but will not be bottled until February or March): Good full, deep red. Brooding aromas of black cherry, small wild red berries, spices and flowers. Like a coulis of fruit in the mouth, with terrific concentration and energy to the dense, bracing flavors of crushed berries and cocoa powder. Quite sappy and primary, with terrific acidity and nicely buffered tannins giving it a firm structure for a slow and positive evolution in bottle. Long and rich on the aftertaste.
