Score 92/100 · Drink 2018-2032, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2018

Good medium red. Inviting, soil-driven aromas of cassis, raspberry, truffle, mushroom, caramel and brown spices. Plush, broad and ripe but classically dry, conveying a fine-grained texture and terrific depth to its red berry, soil and saline mineral flavors. The wine's generous texture reflects the generous growing season, and its refined tannins spread out horizontally to saturate the mouth on the long, savory finish. Winemaker Nadine Gublin, whose first vintage here was 1990, described 1999 as "a very ripe vintage with huge yields," adding that this wine was made from totally destemmed fruit and aged in 100% new oak. This solidly built Chambertin offers plenty of flavor and sex appeal.

Full red. Red fruits and spicy oak on the nose, along with an exotic hint of orange peel. Sweet, tangy red fruit and spice flavors; offer good density and volume on the front half but turns a bit clenched on the back. Still, this finishes with subtle persistence.
