Ruby-red. Lively aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet. Then dense and seamless but youthfully imploded, with classy, sharply delineated flavors similar to the aromas. On first sniff and taste this appears to lack the complex soil tones of the cru, but the very long, perfumed, firmly tannic, slowly building finish exudes a crushed rock character with significant aeration. Distinctly juicy, cool and backward in the context of the vintage, but then this is Chambertin.
