The 2012 Coutet is well-defined with wild honey, acacia and honeysuckle notes, not amazingly complex but pure. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry, fine acidity, plenty of botrytis here with a slightly tangy finish. Fine cohesion here, this should drink well for 15 years or so. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Deep orangey gold. Pungent and racy. Good pace with acidity matching sweetness. (JR)

Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. The 2012 Château Coutet was showing a bit of reduction on the nose when I tasted it: just a touch of chlorine behind the clear honey and waxy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening. There is commendable weight in the mouth with dried honey and peach notes, although it just cuts away rather swiftly on the finish. I would give this a couple of years in bottle.

Tasted blind. Sweet spicy oak on the nose. Not much tension but concentrated sweetness. There’s an edge of something unclean. A bit loose and flabby. (JR)
