Score 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2005

(bottled in May of 2004 due to a late malolactic fermentation) Good deep ruby-red. Extremely primary aromas of blackcurrant, violet, mint and bitter chocolate, with a suggestion of tarry oak. Intensely flavored and sharply focused, with licorice and black fruit flavors. Not yet complex but quite young and promising. A bit less tightly wound and intense on the finish than in the middle palate, but long and juicy, with big, chocolatey tannins.
