55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet. Aromas of very ripe dark fruit, perhaps a little bit reductive, certainly dark and spicy. A little bit leaner on the palate than I expected so that overall it is slightly tough. (JH)

This is really excellent for the vintage, showing precision, structure and finesse. Aromas of dark fruit and truffles. Medium-to full-bodied, harmonious and delicious. Everything moving in the right direction. Better than I remember. Drink or hold.

Tasted blind. Dark purplish crimson. Rather unformed on the nose. Very sweet and formless. The acid sticks out. An ungainly finish. (JR)

The 2012 Lilian Ladouys is an unusually silky, fragrant Saint-Estèphe. Sweet red berry, mint, spice, new leather and plum add shades of nuance. Drink this attractive, mid-weight wine over the next few years.
