Score 85-86/100 · Drink 2001-2006, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2001

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Beaune Teurons has a smoked bacon and blackberry-scented nose. This wine has excellent depth of raspberry, cherry, mineral, stone, and black currant fruit, yet it also possesses copious amounts of hard tannin. Anticipated maturity: now-2006+? Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083.

Deep ruby-red. Aromas of tiny wild berries, leather and game. Fat, sweet and layered, but the complex flavors are kept in check by a hint of menthol austerity. Firm but suave tannins call for at least four or five years of additional bottle aging. Backward but not at all tough, and ultimately sweet on the aftertaste.
