This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos des Hospices has a complex bouquet with potent flint and smoke aromas that are very well delineated. The palate is fresh and poised, and there is superb tension here and focus; it is backward but with great precision and penetration on the finish that sticks in the memory. This is just a wonderful, effervescent, tensile Chablis Grand Cru.

Another wine that has come together over the last year, the 2012 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices is simply impeccable. There is plenty of weight and depth in the glass, but at the same time, the flavors retain an element of transparency that is striking. Dried flowers, mint, sage and dried pears wrap around the expressive finish.

Bright pale yellow. Less floral and more stony on the nose than the "regular" Clos, offering a strong crushed-stone quality to the musky aromas of mint and noble herbs. At once ripe and quite dry in the mouth, initially showing less early personality than the Clos bottling, but opened with air to reveal powerful stone fruit and mineral flavors. This may ultimately be more complex than the Clos but it's much less open to inspection today. Very long and subtle on the aftertaste.

Moreau's 2012 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices is a big, big wine. Vinification in oak gives the Clos des Hospices gives the wine much of its volume. Still, there is plenty of detail for a wine of this size. The style is very much rich, layered and texture. How the oak integrates is a bit of an open question at this stage.
