Tasting notes
The purple-colored 2006 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 12 months in 15% new French and American oak hogsheads. The nose sports an aromatic array of cedar, allspice, violets, and black currant. Slightly compact in the mouth, it has tasty flavors but a slightly pinched personality. It may be that 2-3 years of cellaring will fill it out but that is not a certainty. Importer: Southcorp Wines USA; www.penfolds.com.au

Deep ruby. Smoke, dark berry compote, herbs and vanilla on the nose. Lush, sweet red and dark berry flavors are complemented by notes of mint and camphor, with a sexy mocha quality emerging on the back end. Very cabernet, with a sweet/sour quality and an herbal character that won't endear this wine to those who prefer jammier wines.
