Tasting notes
As for the 2005 Cote Rotie La Landonne, Gerin told me he had six times the demand for this vintage than he had production. The wine offers notes of truffle, asphalt, cold steel, smoked herbs, and some bacon fat and black cherry. It is medium-bodied, relatively austere, has excellent to outstanding depth, but it seems to be a long-term proposition, as it is very backward and remote at present. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. Ruby-red. Intense spice- and floral-accented cassis and blackberry aromas, with a strong graphite note. Vibrant and expansive, with bright, pure dark berry flavors and a building, sweet finish. A strong suggestion of violet pastille lingers impressively. This looks to be outstanding.
