Score 92/100 · Pierre Rovani, Jun 1999

Produced from 30 hectoliter per hectare yields, the 1997 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rotenberg offers a crystalline nose of steel, chalk, and minerals. It is sublimely precise, balanced, and focused. This medium-to-full-bodied wine's gun flint-dominated flavor profile has the stuffing, equilibrium, and concentration to enable it to age gracefully for 20 years or more. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524.

Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Exotic, superripe aromas of quince, dried apricot and spun sugar. Very rich and intensely flavored, seemingly with higher acidity than the Heimbourg. Also quite dry, at about 7 g/l residual sugar. More accessible today in the mouth, and very long on the aftertaste. But also quite high in alcohol (15.3%).
