(with thanks to Richard Orders; also opened from personal storage). The color is just starting to lighten at the rim though there is no bricking. This is a wine that I have had the pleasure of trying many times and it continues to be a knockout. Beautifully complex and now fully mature secondary aromas (though no sous-bois) of earth, plum, underbrush and plenty of Vosne-style spice elements. The impressively rich, powerful and palate staining big-bodied flavors deliver outstanding intensity and flat out stunning length on the muscular but not chewy finale. Despite the excellent size, weight and evident power this borderline robust effort remains extremely classy as it manages to deliver that Richebourg trick of power without weight. The '93 Riche has reached a stage where it could be enjoyed now though note that it should be effortlessly capable of holding for years to come and should soften further. I have had largely consistent notes over the years with the last example coming in 2011.

The dark ruby-colored Richebourg exhibits a sweet nose of cassis, vanilla, and smoke, and closed, medium-bodied flavors. Displaying fine ripeness and intensity, there is tannin in the finish, which is otherwise reassuringly long, sweet, and rich. Give this wine 5-6 years in the cellar and consume it over the next 15. Meo-Camuzet's 1993s are unquestionably successes for the vintage. All the wines were bottled in April, 1995 without fining or filtration. (from a bottle opened at the domaine). Beautifully complex and now largely mature aromas of earth, plum, underbrush and Vosne spice complement the impressively rich, powerful and palate staining flavors that offer outstanding intensity and flat out stunning length. This is quite expressive and extremely classy with a nice blend of power and finesse and while the tannins are not completely resolved, the '93 Riche has reached a stage where it could be enjoyed now or held for a few more years. Note that prior to this bottle I had had largely consistent notes but this particular example was quite a bit better, perhaps because it was opened from domaine storage. Other bottles have been more in the 93 to 94 point range. Allen Meadows, Burghound Nov12,2009
