Score 90/100 · Drink 1993-2001, Robert Parker, Dec 1993

This vintage unquestionably produced mixed performances by this member of the Gros family. The only successful wine is the superb 1991 Richebourg. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of black-raspberries, flowers, and rich, concentrated flavors that linger on the palate. It is an example of how red burgundy can be both light and elegant yet persuasively rich and compelling. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. A Christopher Cannan Selection, Europvin, Watertown, MA, and a Peter Vezan Selection, various importers, including Wine Imports, Ltd., San Francisco, CA and Arborway Imports, Lexington, MA. NOTE: Everyone claims the Gros family divides their allocations of Richebourg after it is bottled, but after tasting the 1991 Richebourgs of Jean Gros, A.F. Gros, and Anne and Francois Gros side by side I was left with the impression that despite what the three domaines claim, there are differences among the wines.
