The 2008 Berliquet feels a little gawky on the nose, missing the cohesion of some of its peers, scents of iris and crushed rose petals infusing the mixture of red and black fruit. There is a sense of “airiness” about these aromatics, almost ephemeral in nature. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little dryness on the back palate, masculine and rather broody with a slightly clipped finish. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Blackish ruby – quite dense. Well-mannered nose, quite complex but still a bit loosely knitted and ungainly on the end with some alcohol. Makes me wonder whether it will ever really resolve itself? Drying finish. (JR)
Some green vegetation on the nose. Then luscious, rather vivacious fruit on the palate but the finish is decidedly scrawny. (JR)
About the producer
The Chanel group – owners of Ch. Rauzan-Ségla and Ch. Canon – added Berliquet to their stable of wine estates in 2017. Since then, the team – led by Nicolas Audebert – has been transforming the property, gradually revealing this special Saint-Emilion site’s potential.
