Tasting notes
A dense dark ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of vanilla, black currants, and spice offered in a stylish, pure, perfumed format. The wine is medium-bodied and highly-nuanced, with nicely integrated wood, acidity, and tannin. This exceptionally pure, symmetrical effort builds incrementally on the palate. It should drink well for 10-12 years. There are 220 cases, all from George Hendry's vineyard in southwest Napa. Tel. (707) 265-6555

Saturated medium ruby. Superripe aromas of cassis, pepper, licorice, bitter chocolate and sweet herbs; just this side of cooked. Silky entry, then supple and dense in the middle, with slightly roasted dark berry flavors. Rather suave wine, and not at all overly sweet. Finishes long and sweetly oaky. I originally rated this wine higher but lowered my score when the wine's oak component became a bit overwhelming with extended aeration.
