Tasting notes
Decadent and hedonistically styled, the 2009 Mitolo Shiraz G.A.M. is loaded with deep, rich aromas of plum sauce, crème de cassis, roasted meats, hints of truffle, and licorice that carry to a full-bodied, upfront, and fruit-driven wine. Needing air to really shine (it was best on the second day), this has a voluptuous richness to its texture, solid mid-palate concentration, and sweet fruit that carries into a chewy, broad finish. While it is certainly delicious and an outstanding wine, it’s a far cry from the older ’03 and ’04 vintages.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 G.A.M. Shiraz gives notes of blackberry preserves, warm black plums and creme de cassis over olives, underbrush, Ceylon tea and mace, plus a hint of dark chocolate. Full bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a medium level of finely grained tannins, lively acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2019. Deep, dark purple. Pungent aromas of boysenberry and blackberry are complemented by dried flowers, smoky oak and black tea. Sappy, concentrated dark fruit flavors show a velvety texture and assertive spiciness, with no rough edges and a late peppery note. Finishes with very good precision and resonating vanilla and blue fruit notes. This benefits from decanting.
