While the 2005 Mitolo Shiraz G.A.M. is fantastic, it lacks the underlying structure and precision of both the 2004 and the 2003 and seems much more upfront, soft and fruit driven. The nose shows gobs of earthy dark fruit that shows hints of black berry, cassis, licorice and spice. With air, more oak aromas of graphite, smoke and coffee show up and this has beautiful richness and depth. The palate is full bodied, soft and with a lush texture and long finish but there's not much underlying structure to this wine. Soft, upfront and easy drinking, this is ripe, seamless and drinking beautifully.

I loved this dense, exciting wine that is thoroughly enveloping in its thick, ripe, Willunga fruit but also manages to have lift and life to it too. No excess of sweetness. A much more comfortable and comforting drink than the 2004. (JR)

Fashioned from a McLaren Vale vineyard, the 2005 Shiraz G.A.M. (named after the Mitolo children – Gemma, Alexander, and Marco) is a deep ruby/purple-hued effort displaying beautiful blackberry, white pepper, licorice, and toasty oak notes. Rich, full-bodied, and intense, with blueberry and blackberry flavors, sweet tannin, and excellent purity, it is a tour de force in winemaking. Enjoy it over the next decade.
