Score 89/100 · Drink 2010-2026, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

Aromas of sweet crème de cassis, licorice, dark chocolate and spices introduce the 2003 La Dame de Montrose, a medium to full-bodied, broad and ample wine with powdery tannins and a soft, low-acid profile. It's at its peak today. In this era, La Dame mostly derived from the vineyards closest to the Gironde.

Lots of sediment and bottle deposit. Mid garnet. Racy and lively with a good spine of ripe fruit and no obvious sweetness nor alcohol. Well, perhaps just a little sweetness. And a tiny hint of dried fruit on the end. Lacks the complexity of the Calon Ségur 1998 tasted immediately beforehand but it certainly isn't tired in any way. (JR)

Still very deep blackish crimson. Sweet, very noble start on the palate and convincing integration on the nose. Classic claret and attractive freshness on the finish. The only drawback? A slightly sudden finish. A very good 2003 claret – especially in view of its being a second wine. Excellent drive. (JR)

Dense, dark and chunky with quite marked, still slightly rough tannins. Definitely needs food. (JR)
