Score 94-96/100 · Drink 2006-2016, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2004

According to Frederic Magnien, his 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze is fashioned from a parcel located high on the hillside. Its hugely spicy, rich, blackberry and dark cherry-scented nose leads to an ample, ripe, powerful personality. Medium to full-bodied, highly concentrated, and noble, its character is crammed with a myriad of dark fruits, cola, and licorice. Its exceptionally long finish reveals lots of superbly ripened tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016. Importer: David Hinkle / Peter Vezan, North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel. Full ruby. Knockout nose of roasted black raspberry, smoke, minerals, underbrush and flowers. Thick and sweet but juicy, with plenty of energy and definition. Very densely packed wine of noteworthy purity. At once large-scaled and fresh, finishing with suave tannins and captivating violety perfume.
