Tasting notes
Super-expressive red cherries burst from the glass of the powerful, seductive 2003 Pommard Rugiens (red). A dense, chunky effort brimming with fruit, this medium to full-bodied wine slathers the palate with chocolate-covered cherries, blackberries, violets, licorice, and notes of cassis liqueur. Thick, muscular, and broad-shouldered, it bellows its terroir as it conquers the taster’s mouth. This muscle-bound behemoth is spectacularly ripe and sports an impressively long finish. The following anticipated maturity dates may be overly conservative as this may well be one of the seriously ageworthy 2003s. Projected maturity: 2008-2017. Good full ruby-red. Liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry and licorice. Quite exotic in the mouth, with a distinct chocolatey suggestion of surmaturite Still, there's some minerality lurking under the surface of this very ripe wine.
A potent nose of plum, mocha and tobacco with a slight vegetal and under brush hint leads to supple but precise, concentrated and deep flavors culminating in a tight, structured, persistent and firm finish. There isn't superior complexity at the moment though this may very well develop with time as there is very good material. Allen Meadows, Burghound Apr01,2005

About the producer

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
