Score 86/100 · Drink 2021-2022, Neal Martin, Sep 2021

The 2001 Blanc de Blancs underwent no malolactic fermentation and was bottled in spring 2002 and disgorged in August 2008. It has a crisp citric bouquet of lemon zest and bruised apple. The palate is underpinned by mouth-puckering acidity that, to be honest, I find discombobulates this Blanc de Blancs, though maybe some fruits de mer might counter that “sting in the tail.”

Light lemon colour. Neutral, putty nose. Dry finish but quite assertive even slightly astringent palate. Not much finesse but solid and no resort to sweetness. Bone dry but not that much interest. (JR)
