Creamy, open-knit and resonant in the glass, the 2007 Montrachet is incredibly appealing, with phenomenal length and tremendous poise. The 2007 is not a blockbuster wine, rather it is built more along the lines of vintages like 2001 and 2004 that are more about finesse than richness. On this night, it is positively sublime. Tasted at the DRC Montrachet charity event in New York.

The 2007 Montrachet from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a positively stellar. Memories of the exotic, botrytis-inflected 2008 tasted a few hours prior offer a fascinating contrast to the suaveness and silkiness of the 2007, a wine that gives everything it has to offer from the moment it is served. Understated, airy and wonderfully fresh, the 2007 Montrachet is sublime. So often wines like these are reserved for large tastings. What a pleasure it is to share this bottle with a small group. Even so, the 2007 disappears pretty quickly.

This was a little too cold to express much initially but really opened up in the glass. Extremely dense with a bone dry finish and notes on the way there of walnuts, spice, an edge of green verve and a lightly smoky finish. Decanted, this could be enjoyed already. (JR)

The 2007 Montrachet, on the other hand, is super-expressive. Silky, perfumed and unctuous, yet also incredibly well balanced, the 2007 is utterly captivating. Scents of orange peel, smoke and pastry add nuance, but it is the wine’s cashmere-like feel that elevates it to the level of the truly sublime.
