The 2004 Clos du Marquis has an old-school Saint-Julien bouquet with tertiary, slightly leathery red fruit that needs more fruit than the growing season didn't bestow. The palate is medium-bodied with a soy-tinged entry. A little pinched with rustic tannins, it just misses some flesh on the finish. Drink soon.

Very correct and notably dense with the 2004 trademark acidity. Some velvet in terms of texture. Fruit picked very late – a slightly lack of freshness. Seductive but not perfect. (JR)

One of the leading estates in Bordeaux, Ch. Léoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest Classed Growths in the Médoc. Along with Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, it is widely considered one of the best estates in Saint-Julien.
