Score 17/20 · Drink 2010-2020, Richard Hemming MW, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2018

More minty and savoury than the 2014, with milk chocolate, blackcurrant and a tasty touch of clove. There's a bit of sourness to the palate, perhaps because the primary fruit has dried out. Less multi-layered than you might expect from a wine at this age (and price). (RH)

The flagship wine, the 2007 Rubicon (94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) has a nose of burning embers, subtle smoke, black currants, and sweet cherries. It is clearly the best of these wines. Medium-bodied, elegant, and meant for immediate consumption, it has enough stuffing and overall balance to evolve for 10, or possibly even 12-15 years in a very cold cellar. Wine can’t be judged by a label, but the new Coppola labels at Rubicon estate, sporting a portrait of Captain Gustav Niebaum, look like something from “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.” Tel.
