Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of raspberry, spices, licorice, violet and menthol. Juicy, penetrating and vibrant, with firm acids keeping the wine's fruit and texture under wraps. Quite aromatic and long on the back end, but in need of a few years of patience.

Candied berries and flowers can be found in the aromatic profile of the 2002 Vosne-Romanee Les Barreaux. Medium-bodied, satin-textured, and displaying a lovely attack, this effort reveals red cherries and tangy dark berries in its personality. It tightens in the finish, exhibiting some rusticity. Red-ruby. Nose shows violet, bitter chocolate and sweet oak. Dense, sweet, smoky and sappy, with firm acids and a vivid note of blood orange. Still a bit hardened by the sulfur addition two weeks prior to my visit, but this impressively vibrant village wine finishes juicy and long.
Hints of oak and discreet spicy black fruit aromas introduce middle weight flavors that display plenty of velvety Vosne character and a sweet, round and elegant flavor profile culminating in a very firm finish. This is not an especially concentrated effort but the precision, transparency of expression and overall harmony makes this one excellent villages. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan01,2005
