Tasting notes
The 2000 Cotes du Rhone includes a whopping amount of Syrah (50%), along with 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre. One of the best values in the marketplace, it exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as sweet aromas of berry fruit, cassis, earth, licorice, and asphalt. Medium-bodied, with density/intensity and sweet tannin, it is the finest Cotes du Rhone Guigal has fashioned since the 1998. Surprisingly, these offerings can last 4-5 years, sometimes even longer. (bottled in August; features 50% syrah) Deep, bright ruby-red. Raspberry, violet, flowers, pepper and tree bark on the nose. Juicy, firm, peppery and penetrating. A lovely food wine with good ripeness. Since '98 this cuvee has featured more syrah.
