This exhibits sliced plum, chocolate and toffee notes. Medium-bodied, with a light plum fruit character and a medium, silky finish. Slightly one-dimensional at this stage, but harmonious. Best after 2012. – James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2010

Dark, spicy and a little savoury but rather light on the palate. Still finishes fresh enough.Julia Harding, www.jancisrobinson.com, 20 Oct 2009

The strongest effort from Canon since 1982 and before 2009, the 2007 (75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc) exhibits a dark ruby/purple color along with a beautiful bouquet of crushed rocks, boysenberries, blueberries, black raspberries, and licorice. The soft tannins, classic feel and texture, and medium to full-bodied, lengthy finish with no hard edges make for an enjoyable, potentially complex wine to drink over the next 15 years. Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Canon has a light and pleasant but, I have to say, slightly weedy bouquet that is simply missing the intensity of either Troplong-Mondot or Canon-la-Gaffeliere. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin on the entry, game and leather infusing the dark berry fruit with a healthy pinch of white pepper on the finish. It's actually one of the better bottles that I have tasted, although Nicolas Audebert is producing far superior wines nowadays. Tasted February 2017. Jun 2017, www.robertparker.com
