Sort of splits the difference between ancient and modern St-Emilion styles. Definitely lively and quite racy, but riper than most, too. Not quite convincing, but a brave attempt. Reasonably refreshing. (JR)

This 1999 is revealing deeper, richer fruit than last year. It is an elegant, structured, mineral, coffee, and red fruit-scented and flavored wine. Drying tannin in the finish may become worrisome after a decade of aging. Nevertheless, there is plenty of up-front, sweet fruit, good spice, and the undeniable liquid minerality so much a part of this vineyard's terroir. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2013.

Shows dried fruits and flowers on the nose. Earthy and gamy as well, but I like it. Full-bodied, with very silky tannins and a nutty, fruity finish. Chewy still, but there's no reason to wait.'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009). Drink now. – James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2010
