Tasted at the Château Canon vertical, the 1995 Canon is a controversial wine whereby a proportion of the bottles were affected by an infection in the winery. It's a lottery what you will find in your glass and so I requested a bottle to find out for myself at the property. The nose is quite foursquare, although there are some attractive mulberry and leathery aromas. It is on the palate that the problem occurs because if feels very dry and bitter, especially on the finish. It's not a terrible Saint Emilion by any means, but it is clear that this is a long way from where it should have been and any bottles should be drunk now. It's a shame because you can envisage a satisfying wine. But you cannot taste what should have been, just what is. Tasted October 2015.

Notably pale with definite evolution. Very light nose. Lightweight but charming – round and easy for current drinking. Not trying desperately hard though. This bottle does not seem to be seriously TCA affected. (Made the year the Fourniers sold the property whose cellars had a significant TCA problem from a wood treatment applied inadvertently). (JR)

A dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a layered texture, sweet, jammy red and black fruits, low acidity, and a long, lush finish; it should drink well for a decade
