Tasted at the Château Canon vertical, I must admit that I thought I was going to love the 1975 Canon. However, the nose is rather oxidized and feels flat—a touch of stewed prune and melted tar. It just seems very fatigued. The palate is actually better with good structure and some freshness, notes of fig and bitter cherry, though it feels quite austere towards the finish. I wonder whether this was ever much kop? French writer Jacques Dupont opposite me compared it to an old Pinot Noir and I can see where he was coming from. Drink up if you still have any bottles. Tasted October 2015.
