Score 88/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 1989 Barbaresco is in a beautiful place right now. The aromatics are a touch more advanced than the flavors, although the wine retains quite a bit of freshness and inner perfume. The tannins are firm yet well-balanced. At this stage, the 1989 is a relatively small-scaled version of the Barbaresco, and while the wine may hold for a number of years, it doesn’t appear that there is too much upside to be gained from further cellaring. It seems fairly obvious that current vintages of this wine are far superior. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2012. Feb 2010, www.robertparker.com
