The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2005 St.-Joseph is tannic and structured as well as more well-endowed than its younger sibling. This is a rich, stylish example of the appellation. Importer: Russell Herman, Berkeley Heights, NJ; tel. (908) 771-9082

Ruby-red. Spicy raspberry and cassis on the nose, picking up suave florality with aeration. Shows more depth than last year, with ripe red berry and bitter cherry flavors and firm finishing grip.

Deep ruby. Bright, zesty raspberry and strawberry aromas, with hints of white flowers and exotic orange peel. Quite densely packed, with very sweet red berry flavors, silky tannins and medium weight. Finishes clean and brisk, with very good energy and a lingering minerality.
