Score 95/100 · Drink 1992-2007, Robert Parker, Aug 1992

The 1990 Gewurztraminer-Herrenweg-Turckheim is more sensational than their 1989. The yields were only 22-25 hectoliters per hectare (under two tons per acre) from tightly spaced vines. The wine offers the classic Gewurztraminer nose - lychee nuts, allspice, smoke, and cloves. There is phenomenal concentration, excellent acidity, and an enormously long, full-bodied finish. It should last for 10-15 years. As I said last year, the range of wines produced by Leonard and Olivier Humbrecht in both 1989 and 1990 is a memorable achievement. The 1989s have largely disappeared from the marketplace except for some of the rare, super-expensive Vendange Tardive offerings, but the dry 1990s have just arrived. Importers: Wine Markets International, Woodbury, NY and Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA.
