Score 88/100 · Drink 1996-2001, Robert Parker, Aug 1996
The 1994 Le Cigare Volant, a Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Syrah blend, is Grahm's interpretation of a California-styled Chateauneuf du Pape. 1994 celebrates this wine's tenth year. Surprisingly, the best vintage Grahm made was the first one, 1984. The 1994 is, nevertheless, a strong effort, exhibiting a deep ruby color, plenty of jammy, raspberry, and cherry fruit, medium body, good spice, fine purity, and a long finish. It is ideal for drinking over the next 4-5 years. Think of it as a Cotes du Rhone/St.-Joseph blend, rather than a Chateauneuf du Pape. Tel. (408) 425-3625
