Score 96/100 · Drink 2015-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, May 2015

The 2001 Terra di Lavoro is a stunning wine that is enjoying a most peaceful and positive evolution today. It delivers a level of complexity and elegance that puts it in a class of its own. The bouquet exhibits tertiary aromas of smoke, ash, licorice, cured meat and dried fruit. Those aromas show a fluid quality that is backed by energy and momentum. Wait a few moments and dried herbs, rosemary and mint rise from the glass. It shows a silky, elongated quality in the mouth with fine tannins and extra long persistency. Given how well this wine is holding up, it still has a long way to go.

The 2001 Terra di Lavoro is a blockbuster. Still incredibly fresh and vibrant, the 2001 impresses for its superb overall balance and poise. There is exceptional clarity and nuance in the glass, not to mention finessed tannins that frame the intensity of the fruit all the way through to the glorious finish, where hints of chocolate, espresso and minerals add the final layers of complexity.
