Tasting notes
The 1983 Filhot is much darker in colour than the 1986. The nose lacks the same freshness and vitality of that vintage, fully mature with smudged caramel and toffee-like scents. The palate is bitter on the entry with sour lemon and desiccated orange peel, taut and linear but missing some weight on the finish. This appears to be on a gentle downward slope. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot.

This is an attractive, lighter-weight Sauternes without any evidence of serious botrytis. The wine possesses straightforward, flowery, ripe quasi-viscous flavors presented in a medium-bodied format. There is an overall lack of focus and complexity. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 4/86.
