Tasting notes
From one of southern Tuscany's most superb estates, this blend of 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 75% Sangiovese, and 5% Syrah is aged for 12 months in French oak casks. Sadly, there are only 200 cases produced, but readers lucky enough to latch onto a bottle or two are in for a spectacular drinking experience. The wine's opaque purple color is followed by a sweet nose of minerals, white truffles, black raspberries, and cherry jam. Massively flavored, with full body, a silky texture, and a touch of spice and tar in the long, convincing finish, it should drink well for at least a decade. The flagship wine of the estate, made from the Massa Marittima vineyards, and outstanding in 1988, 1990, and 1994. Dark garnet with ruby highlights. Powerful aromas of plum, berries, vanilla and chocolate. Massive plum and cassis fruit, with perceptible alcoholic warmth; full and enveloping from the initial attack to the powerful kick on the finish.
