Medium ruby. Rather reticent aromas of bitter cherry, blueberry, espresso and dark chocolate, with a suggestion of anise. Tightly wound and firm in the mouth; the cherry and chocolate flavors are a bit subdued right now but this is mouthfilling and rich nonetheless. Brightens and opens up nicely on the finish, displaying a sweeter red berry tone and big, round tannins. This benefited significantly from aeration.

The deep plum-colored 2002 Shiraz Amery Vineyards is a supple-textured, sexy, sensual Shiraz offering a big, sweet nose of melted licorice, black cherry liqueur, blackberries, and earth. Full-bodied and opulent, this hedonistic as well as intellectual turn-on can be enjoyed over the next 7-10 years. This wine is finished with a screw cap. Oct 2004, www.robertparker.com
