Good bright, deep red. Restrained but very ripe aromas of cherry, leather and truffle. Densely packed and superripe, with considerable power. This struck me as '47-like from barrel a year ago, and I have the same impression today. Finishes hugely tannic and palate-staining. This will age for a long time.

Rather reduced on the nose and quite stern on the palate as well yet there is unquestionably superb underlying material and outstanding intensity. This is very awkward and firmly structured but I feel confident that this will sort itself out with time.

(still holding a good bit of CO2 due to the fact that the secondary fermentation only ended in September) Bright, deep ruby-red. Reduced, chocolatey nose. Big, dense, broad and rich; the ripeness here verges on roasted and yet this almost miraculously conveys an impression of energy. Here's a 2003 in the 1947 style.
