The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots stands out for its aromatic lift and pure expressiveness. The Goulots blossoms in all directions, with layers of bright, intensely perfumed fruit and compelling overall balance. Seamless and beautiful, the 2011 impresses for its exceptional overall harmony. The cool site on the top of the slope complements some of the more overt qualities of the year. Sweet dark cherries, mint and cloves flow through to the inviting finish.

Good bright, full red. Knockout high-pitched perfume combines red cherry, licorice, minerals and blood orange. Pungent and precise in the mouth, with bracing flavors of red fruits and minerals. Tightens up considerably on the very long, bracing, aromatic finish. This has the structure and verve for a graceful evolution in bottle.

A very small premier cru. Cool north of the village near Combe aux Moines. Took JMF 14 years to understand. Dark crimson. Modest nose and lovely broad, sweet fruit. Rich and appealing. I could just do with a little more life and zest. Neat finish, long. Not classical. (JR)

This is also exceptionally fresh and expressive with an aromatic profile of upper range red berry fruit, wet stone and a hint of underbrush. There is excellent refinement to the moderate firm tannic spine that gives shape to the intense and sappy medium-bodied flavors that exude a natural sweetness on the agreeably dry and clean finish. Good stuff. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2018+
