50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. 30% new oak for 12–15 months. Deep garnet. Very strong blackcurrant. Fermented blackcurrant pastilles. Dry finish. There may never be quite enough fruit for this structure but with food it should give pleasure. A bit angular and scrawny though. (JR)

Consistently one of my “best buy” choices, the 2011 Cambon La Pelouse is once again a big-time winner. It is made from 55% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot from the southern part of the Medoc known as Macau (close to Giscours and Cantemerle). The wine exhibits a deep ruby/plum color as well as abundant floral notes intermixed with red and black currants, spice box and a hint of subtle oak. This fleshy, medium-bodied, richly fruity 2011 can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

⁞50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot. Mid crimson. Firm, classic perfume. Very solid and reliable. There is just about enough fruit weight for the acidity and lots of mid weight tannins. Seems very straightforward and non tarted up. Clean even if not that persistent. (JR)

Mid crimson. Not much nose. Sweet palate entry then notably inky on the finish. A bit skinny and rather bitter. Hole in the middle. (JR)
