2001 Cambon la Pelouse (Haut Medoc)

Very deep crimson. Slightly herbaceous note on the nose. Round palate entry and very well-mannered. Useful ‘luncheon claret’. Mid-weight and well-balanced. Though very far from a blockbuster. (JR)

The dense ruby/purple-colored 2001 possesses a sweet bouquet of smoke, black currants, melted licorice, and earth. Medium-bodied, with supple tannin, abundant fruit, and fine concentration, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage. An up and coming estate, Cambon La Pelouse owns 150 acres (poor, gravelly soil) situated between Cantemerle and Giscours. The vineyard is planted with 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Since winery renovations were completed in the late nineties, the wines have shown considerable character in an early maturing, fruit forward style.

Deep, thick, fresh and green on the palate. Good position between Giscours and Cantemerle and good intent though too tart to allow much fun. (JR)
