Score 89/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2014

The 1983 Nuits-Meurgers from Henri Jayer is now fully mature. Autumn leaves, sweet tobacco, crushed flowers and dried cherries are laced together in a soft, fully mature Burgundy that is perhaps a bit past its peak, but still quite pretty.

The Nuits St.-Georges Les Murgers is quite good, with fat, fleshy flavors. It is rather supple for a 1983, and will probably be mature by 1990.

Henri Jayer

The wines of Henri Jayer (1922-2006) have mythical status in Burgundy. Coveted by many but tasted by just a precious few, they are some of the region’s rarest and most desirable – considered by some to be the pinnacle of what can be achieved with Pinot Noir.
