Bright berry fruit. Extraordinarily intense yet restrained nose. Firmly mineral with some earthy/savoury character too. Explosive on the palate, this is complete and very, very fine. Well defined, precise and very, very long. Excellent.

Medium red. Reticent but pristine aromas of cranberry, raspberry and clove oil, plus an exhilarating suggestion of candied fruit. Superconcentrated, silky and utterly seamless; wonderfully spherical wine with great fruit intensity and complexity and a pungent crushed stone element. Combines a texture of liquid velvet with an almost magically light touch. Finishes with noble tannins and great length and grip. Even sweeter on the finish than the Amoureuses. Great wine in the making.

Background notes of wood are discernible but stop short of being invasive as they still allow the restrained, cool and pure dark berry fruit and black cherry aromas to shine. Interestingly this is less overtly spicy as the Amoureuses at present though there is a genuinely gorgeous inner mouth perfume to the suave, round and polished middle weight plus flavors that possess plenty of underlying muscle and power on the hugely long, balanced and impressively complex finish. While clearly firmly structured, this is somewhat more forward and approachable than is typical for this wine. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2023+
