The first vintage for which Fred was solely responsible. Quite an honour to taste this. Pale ruby with lots of sediment. Sweet start but with quite a bit of acidity in evidence. Powerful aroma of red cherries. Neat. Typically non-flashy. Extremely persistent. Great stuff, though perhaps not quite as sublime as some of his later vintages. (JR)

Score 90/100 · Drink 1990-1994, Robert Parker, Jan 1990
The Musigny Vieilles Vignes is remarkably seductive, intense, complex, and even profound. Gobs of sweet, toasty fruit are present in this medium- to full-bodied wine. It drinks extremely well now, but should keep until 1993-1994. This is a surprisingly concentrated wine for the vintage.
