The 2004 Barolo Gattera is round, silky and supple, with lovely expression of site and terrific balance, all in a style best suited to near term drinking. Dark red and black cherry, spice, new leather and menthol flesh out as this layered, juicy Barolo shows off its radiant personality. Orange peel, cinnamon, mint and licorice add further nuance on the open-knit finish.

La Morra, aged in botti. Medium garnet. Interesting nose – smoky coffee and perfume. Juicy, sweet fruit, fresh and dry. Fine tannins. Quite approachable. (JH)
The Revello cellars are located in Annunziata just under La Morra. Carlo’s beacon for exceptional Barolo is Elio Altare, so their wines tend to have upfront, fleshy fruit. The wines are aged in casks and smaller French oak barrels, some of which are new . Aged in 15hl casks for 24 months. Bright cherry fruit on the nose, surprisingly open, with herby orange notes. Dusty. Rich, firm and great depth of fruit. Lithe even though there are firm tannins. So fresh, juicy and spicy at this youthful stage. Supple and lingering. (JH) £275.00 ib Goedhuis
Revello's 2004 Barolo Vigna Gattera is the only wine the estate ages in a 15 hectoliter barrels rather than the smaller French oak barriques. Sweet mentholated notes intertwined with dark red fruit and spices emerge from this beautiful, silky-textured wine. Made in a somewhat structured style for a La Morra Barolo, it reveals outstanding length and terrific overall balance. This took some time to open up, but when it did, it was superb.
